MUTEMATH are back with their second album Armistice! Last march Paul Meaney from the band said “Our goal is to embarrass the first record, that’s what we’re trying to do here, and I think we’re on point to pull it off.”
I have played it around 7 times today & im not sure if im quite ready to say they have achieved that BUT then i reckon it would be impossible to embarrass their debut, even by their own standards! These guys are simply awesome, their ‘sound’ blew me away instantly after a long wait for a follow up to 2006′s self titled debut. Alt-rock? Post-rock? I have no idea what to label it as, but i genuinely do not think there are many bands around today who excite me this much. The cd & Vinyl are on their way to me, the download has been on repeat all day, i rarely pay this much attention to a new album, or any album for that matter.
I hesitate to say the the UK has not quite ‘got them’ yet BUT in truth the UK has not quite ‘got them’ yet! Do not fret, while amazon & iTunes all catch up in the UK you can still get all you need from the band’s website. I think you need to go do that now!

Les Paul, a pioneer in the development of the solid-body electric guitar which “made the sound of rock and roll possible” has died aged 94. What can you say about Les Paul? His name is synonymous with one of, if not thee most famous & most used electric guitars of all time. I knew the guitar before i knew that name was actually a real person. It took him years of “pounding” Gibson about his electric guitar before they actually picked it up and created a brand to rival fender. In 1952 they brought guitarists the ‘Les Paul.’ These types of guys get forgotten by young guitar players but they should take notice, this guy was a legend.
