Tragic news

Gary Speed 1969-2011

Paul Scholes

I’m starting to get the feeling I may mention football a bit too often on my blog over the summer…

In a world where the term ‘legend’ gets thrown about too easily, this man is without doubt, a sporting legend!

Thanks for the memories Scholes…

This is Wayne Rooney and his agent!

This is Wayne Rooney and his agent! His agent’s name is irrelevant to this post…..

They like money! Well, the agent likes money but Rooney’s views on that are as yet unclear!

I have a prediction though. I believe that all the smokescreens about why Wayne wants to leave Manchester United are nonsense.

I may be an angry Manchester United fan but I am not stupid and I fully accept that players come & go, even when we would prefer they didn’t!

The hard fact is that United have an immense money problem which dictates that they cannot pay him as much as his contemporaries are being offered at other clubs. He knows this because his agent knows this and in the modern game, the agent pulls the strings and looks after the money!

And I know that rivals fans will be calling out United supporters as fickle – oh how we once loved Rooney and now we have changed our tune – but the fact remains that in modern day professional football, loyalty and integrity are all but gone. We have good reason to be angry at his behaviour, and we don’t even have his side of the story yet! But, he has acted like a tit!

When players like Giggs and Scholes, or even Jamie Carragher quit the game, they will be amongst the last of a dying breed. They are real professionals, men I can respect, sportsmen whose motivation is not money…….

Rooney on the other hand? His motives are yet to emerge but if its not about the money, I’ll eat my hat…..

He may go on to greater things – I doubt it – and we may witness a glittering career from him after he leaves United – I doubt that also – but hey, him and his agent will be very rich and nowadays we all know that is what really counts!

Then this happened…

So, last night I shouted and complained my way through 85 minutes of dire football!

Then this happened……….

Wayne’s World Cup?

Wayne Rooney stands head & shoulders above the rest of the England squad, could this be his World Cup?

Will he light up the tournament or will he explode under the pressure of trying to lift the average team around him?

We shall see……..

World Cup 2010 starts tomorrow, expect a few football related blog posts over the next 4 weeks….
