A few years ago I began following a store called Nasty Gal. I often shared pictures where the styling inspired me and I found that Nasty Gal offered a unique vintage look which was still edgy and current. Little did I know that over the years founder Sophia went from broke to topping the US rich lists. Starting with an ebay account selling vintage finds she has built an online empire which now attracts big bucks.
#GirlBoss is her book where she tells us how she did it and what she learned along the way. At times it is not for the faint hearted with the book covering her life story, business advice and fashion tips all in one. It isn’t always successful and contains a whole bucket load of the F-word but it is interesting and the author is down to earth.
Having good style takes thought, creativity, confidence, self-awareness, even sometimes a bit of work. And there you have it, folks; A little bit of skin + attention to silhouette + an attitude + a vintage piece or two + a decent price tag = Hello, Nasty Gal. Sophia Amoruso
Sophia is a no nonsense, practical money maker who has involved lots of her female friends and colleagues in her book to provide plenty of inspiration for any business person. It is a quick and easy read, but for adults only. Look out for the July Book club from A Beautiful Mess which will be tackling #GirlBoss at the end of this month. Find out more here.
