“The Nike Free Run+ 3 Men’s Running Shoe offers a barefoot-like ride with the cushioning, traction and underfoot protection of a traditional shoe. Its low-profile midsole doubles as an outsole, dramatically reducing overall weight.”
That’s what Nike say about this shoe………
I bought a pair a couple of weeks ago and they are awesome. My first time running in them was a revelation……….I ran farther and with more ease……my knees appear to love this style of shoe…………but this week I caught a cold so I’m on a running break until that goes away!
I’m really looking forward to running more in these shoes though……
What running shoes do you wear and why?

I’m a big fan of gutties from Barretts. Them and Saucony ProGrids.
gutties you say? lol iv not heard shoes called that for many year……
I also have a pair of the nike 3.0 but have to confess that I’m not a fan. I wear a pair of adidas pro 4 on the road and go bare on the grass. The pro 4 are lightweight with little to no cushioning which creates more foot awareness which encourages a healthty mid foot strike.
ah, I looked at that shoe Tim – what is it about the Nike that you dont like? Just curious
I found it a little bit high and not as responsive as I expected. The biggest issue for me was that although they are sold as a shoe that promotes a healthy mid foot strike, I found that my heel was hitting the ground a lot more than it normally would in other shoes / no shoes. Wearing the nike felt like a step backwards for me. Having said that, they are very comfortable to walk in and I still run in them from time to time if my other shoes get soaked etc. One of my training partners has recently transitioned over to wearing the new sketchers range and is so confident in them that he has offered to buy me a pair if I am prepared to give them a go. He also is a huge fan of the Nike 3.0
When I got a bit more serious about running I did some research (some I say) and ended up with the Asics Gel-1160′s. After a gait analysis I found I was slightly over pronating, came down to these or the Mizuno waves! Not completely broke in yet but enjoying running in them as I up the miles…. running watch research next!
Sounds like it’s going well for you Ally
I wear my Nike basketball shoes because we’re poor and trainers are not something we’re in the market for..
Colin – the Nike watch looks amazing but it’s pricey……that said, the Nike+ app is free and does everything I need for now but then my phone is not water resistant so……. let me know what you find out about watches.
Tim – how do you track speed/time etc? Watch?
I use a garmin fore runner due to the fact that most of the training I do is to a heart rate. The garmin gives a more detailed account of each training session that can be uploaded to any mac/pc. The garmin is also more reliable than the I phone or android equivalent because it does not rely on a mobile signal for its data.
just googled them…….looks the business……..bit too advanced/cool/expensive for a beginner like me
I do recommend a heart rate monitor for effective and efficient training. Prices for watch and chest strap start out at around £25
Check out the “ON CloudTec” Cloudsurfer/Cloudrunner from Switzerland…they make some pretty bold statements about performance improvements. I got a pair for my expecting-wife (on her feet all day at work) to absorb some impact as she begins to waddle through the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of her pregnancy and she seems to like them.
And if you’re really looking to buy into some hype like I am, the Reebok Zig-Tec apparel says it’s going to increase your blood-oxygen levels by as much as 7%!
Geez, another couple of years and we won’t even have to sweat.
