“What drives me to want to lead? Is it love for Jesus? Is it love for people? Is it a desire to see God’s purposes carried out? Or is it all about me: how I am perceived, how successful I think I am, how people view me and evaluate me, how much they like me . . . or don’t like me?” [source]
I have been thinking about these words over the past day or two………..
‘Love for Jesus, Love for people………to see God’s purposes carried out?’
Is this why I lead a small group? Is it why you lead your music/worship ministry? Is it why you lead the mens/women’s ministry? Youth club? Sunday School?
The church is not a club…….it’s not a business……you are not climbing a ladder………it’s not about you!
So, what drives you to want to lead?
“Is it love for Jesus? Is it love for people? Is it a desire to see God’s purposes carried out?”

Thats good Ally, always brings us back to Who we serve & why!
If we are leading/ serving to gain praises from others then its a simple case of self-righteousness, we are, as Paul says in the great Love chapter in 1 Cor. 13 ” clanging symbols “.
Yet it can be so easy to go down that road of people pleasing just because its ‘the christian thing to do’ . . . And thats when we need to repent and turn our eyes back to Jesus! Just as i write this that great hymn “Jesus, All for Jesus” has come into my head!
All Glory to Him, Amen!
Thanks Mark – you know I sometimes have to check myself before I sing that hymn……ask myself if I can truthfully sing the words! Tis awesome
Im pretty sure most of us would have to check ourselves before singing the words to it Ally, but thats a good thing is it not . . . Otherwise it wouldnt really be worship to God but rather just empty words!
Great post Ally. I’m pretty sure I walk the fine between Jesus and me every day, unfortunately, I most likely spend too much time on the me side!
