Last year, in my quest to lose some weight and get into better shape I did a little running……..I stress the word ‘little’ ……..I’ve got a dodgy knee and a weak ankle……so…..if you are in your twenties now? Take better care of yourself and try to avoid dodgy knee’s and weak ankles! Just sayin……
In 2012 I have sporadically went running……with some walking inserted when I am almost about to gasp to death…….so, I run, then walk, then run……..etc etc
In the last few weeks I have ‘upped my game’ a bit!
I won’t lie! The Olympic Games have been partly responsible……in the build-up to the games and, as a result of the inspiration that we have watched! I’m easily influenced…….
But, like I said, I’m no runner
My knee still hurts and I know I could roll off my ankle at any point…….but, I’ve tried to push myself that wee bit harder over the last few weeks…….running at least three times per week……adding a little more distance each time……..more running, less walking……..running in the morning before breakfast…….mixing that up a bit and running in the evening just before dark………
All good! Worth the effort!
So, have the Olympic Games inspired you in any way? The next generation of world-class athletes are watching the games………dreaming of competing……..it could be your son, daughter, brother, sister, nephew, niece………am I too late to take up Archery?
Why not get your adidas on………

That sounds good Ally! Three mornings a week is about ideal, it can make you feel like you have more energy. Running more can leave a person with less energy for work, unless it’s like your job, ha!.That’s what it’s like for me anyway. Be careful with your ankle.
Shortly after we arrived here I saw an opportunity to hook up with a buddy and go for runs.. He seemed like he enjoyed going to the gym and I broached the subject. Turns out he wasn’t as enthusiastic as I thought, he’s more of an iron pumper and he doesn’t believe me when I tell him that’s not really exercise, ha! After that first morning we never went out again (also I did something to my foot that had me out of action for about 2 weeks!)
I’m lucky here to have a good group of young people around who like to play sports. I enjoy the running, but find it hard to motivate myself out there in the mornings when I have to get started on work- oddly, reading blogs is not a problem :p I’m lucky as well in that either because I’m still young or just because I don’t carry all that much weight (yet) I don’t struggle to keep up the pace despite never ever doing it (I’m not trying to gloat about that, I just realise I’m lucky).
Fi and I both really prefer the swimming though; exercises your whole body, leaves you with better muscle tone without the need for silly weights and things (I consider weight training rather vain), really doesn’t feel like that much effort while you’re doing it.. It’s the ultimate exercise!
there is a great runner inside each and every one of us!
Like you, I started running this year. I began with walking, then ran 1 mile, then 2, etc… I eventually worked up to a 10 mile run, not to anxious about running that trek again. While running, I’m reminded of Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” NLT.
Running has been a reminder of my relationship with God. I don’t run with music on, I have found that this time is a great opportunity for prayer. Of course, there are a few times I ask God to help me up the hill.
Thanks.
Josh…….
Interesting, Tim and i discussed this briefly on twitter last night…..definitely a theme that has been in my head……..
many thanks for sharing that
