Serving yourself and not Jesus?

“Knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.” (Colossians 3:24-25 ESV)

I read this blog post last week and thought “good stuff” and then bookmarked it!

I didn’t know that a few days later I’d be trying to figure out how to blog what was on my mind without inviting a lawsuit! And yes, the blog post says what needs to be said!

“Colossians 3:25 makes it clear that unfair, lazy, or unethical work doesn’t go unnoticed by Jesus either and will be accounted for. Oppressive, unjust business practice will also be brought before the throne of Jesus and dealt with.”

My thoughts initially were just a criticism for some specific people but these words made me look at my own integrity and ask how i measure up. Our work, whether we are employed or self-employed is a huge challenge. Conducting our business with integrity and Godliness is tough…..really tough!

Whatever your business is, if you are a Christian then you have a big responsibility – a very big one. If your actual business is labelled as “Christian” then you have placed a big sign over your head, a big bright spotlight that says ‘we better be squeaky clean.’

At least thats how i see it!

I could go off on a rant about “Oppressive, unjust business practice” by ‘Christians’ and we could all nod and agree but then when one of us decides to not pay that bill or to rip of our ‘brother in Christ,’ an excuse will be pulled out of the hat – a diluted out of context scripture referencing excuse!

An excuse that gets us off the hook! But, its not good enough!

I won’t lie, i have been pretty pissed off yet again with the ‘CCM world’ and I’ve concluded that some things & some people deserve patience but some are just toxic!

The cycle of being upset and moaning about it and calming down and being upset and moaning about and calming down over and over is deceptive. It chips away at you and causes spiritual damage that you might not notice until you are a twisted cynical mess!

I am now of on holiday for a week, though not going away anywhere but i won’t be blogging for a few days – this is a tired post if im honest, its a plea to others and to myself to act justly and with integrity – in everything, especially our business dealings.

May we realise and admit to our ‘love of money’ and how it drives our decisions and may we cast it aside as ‘evil’ and instead look to Jesus – or maybe you should admit that you are serving yourself and not Jesus and drop the “Christian” label?

Us ‘Christians’ need to keep each other more accountable. Something we’re pretty bad at in my opinion. That’s what it seems to come down to for me in my mind.

Although … ultimately it does come down to personal responsibility. We weren’t meant to do it alone though …

Am I making sense? LOL, my brain is a bit fried this evening.
